Do you like to take your own equipment with you when travelling? We will carry your snowboarding, surfing or golf equipment with or without a surcharge depending on the fare.
Sports baggage with no surcharge
Sports baggage as free baggage
We will carry your sports baggage with no surcharge, providing it does not exceed the number of bags and weight of the baggage allowance on your ticket. Please note that this does not apply to hang gliders, long boards and tandems.
Skis & snowboards
One item of skiing or snowboarding equipment per person can be taken free of charge in addition to the free baggage. This does not apply to European routes on the Economy Light fare and routes from/to/via the USA, Mexico and Central America.
Sports baggage with a surcharge
You will also incur a charge depending on the type of sport concerned if your sports baggage exceeds your baggage allowance. You will also be charged a ticket service fee and this will vary depending on your departure location. The fee is between EUR 10 and EUR 20. Only previously registered sports baggage is accepted at check-in up to a maximum weight of 32 kg and a maximum length of 3.15 m. Carriage must be confirmed in advance when booking. The normal excess baggage charges apply to sports items not listed below or if their contents are outside the specified definition.

Due to local security measures, an additional airport tax for weapons is always charged in Italy/Spain (EUR 60), South Africa (USD 80), Turkey (EUR 30), Zurich (CHF 55), Cyprus (EUR 25) and Geneva (CHF 200 or CHF 250 if more than two hours before departure). Please note that weapons/ammunition can only be carried to London Heathrow (LHR) as freight due to local factors.

Maximum permitted 2 bags:
- 1 piece of baggage containing either a compressed air cylinder (please note the instructions below) or an empty oxygen cylinder
- 1 bag with diving goggles, snorkel, flippers, diving suit, buoyancy compensator/BCD jacket and regulator;
- You can find transport regulations for transporting a diving lamp in the section Diving lamps, soldering irons and other heat-generating devices with built-in batteries.
Additional notes on compressed air cylinders:
- Compressed air cylinders containing gases in hazard division 2.2 may be transported at a pressure less than 200 kPa (2 Bar) at 20°C.
- The use of liquified or frozen liquified gases is prohibited.
- If the compressed air cylinder does not have a pressure gauge, the valve must be left open. Otherwise transport of such items is also prohibited.

Skiing or snowboarding equipment is carried free of charge per person. This does not apply to the Economy Light fare and routes to/from/via the USA, Mexico and Central America.

Restrictions at London Heathrow Airport
It is no longer possible to book bulky sports baggage from / to / via London Heathrow due to infrastructure restrictions at London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Bulky sports baggage items include: canoes/kayaks, hang gliders, riding equipment, long boards, rubber dinghies, tandems, pole-vaulting equipment and windsurfing equipment.
This is how to take your sports baggage with you
Register
Please inform us beforehand by telephone or email because our capacity for sports baggage is limited. Carriage is only guaranteed once you have confirmation, otherwise your equipment will be stored and you will incur a charge. This also applies to skis and snowboards carried as free baggage.
Packing
Once you have received confirmation, please check the packing of your equipment using the specified maximum dimensions per sports category. bicycles can only be accepted if they are packed in a suitable bicycle travel case or a similar container. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with any packaging.
Checking in
On the day of travel, plan enough time for your journey to the airport so you arrive at the counter in good time before the check-in deadline. Check-in times may vary from airport to airport.

You have the option of taking your musical instrument with you in the cabin. Depending on the weight and size, you can carry it with you as hand luggage or you must buy an extra ticket. You can also take your musical instrument with you as an additional bag and check it in.
Please ensure that your musical instrument is packed in a hard protective case with as little room for movement as possible and with good padding. This is the only way we can ensure that it will not be damaged during carriage in the cargo hold. This also applies to musical instruments that cannot be accepted in the cabin as hand luggage and have to be loaded at short notice. Traditional transport cases are not suitable for carriage.
Please ensure you contact our Service Centre if your musical instrument exceeds dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm and/or a weight of 8 kg. You must then buy an additional seat. This must be booked at the same time as you book your own ticket. Prices for taking your musical instrument with you depend on the ticket prices available.
Musical instruments that you wish to book to take with you in the cabin must not exceed the following size and weight specifications:
- 155 x 42 x 25 cm (height x width x depth) for musical instruments that stand on the floor in front of the seat;
- 110 x 42 x 50 cm (height x width x depth) for musical instruments strapped to the seat; and
- maximum weight 75 kg.
