Terms and conditions of use

The Austrian Flight Value Voucher (referred to below as “Flight Value Voucher”) is an offer of Austrian Airlines AG, Office Park 2, PO Box 100, A-1300 Vienna Airport (referred to below as “Austrian”). Those who register for this offer (referred to below as “users”) have the option of converting their unused ticket value into a credit and using it to purchase flight tickets on austrian.com at a later date.

These terms and conditions of use apply to the use of the Flight Value Voucher. In addition to these terms and conditions of use, the Austrian General Terms and Conditions of Carriage also apply at all times. These can be found at austrian.com.

The Flight Value Voucher can be applied for for tickets issued up to and including May 15th, 2020 and with a confirmed departure date between March 1st and December 31st, 2020.

The suitability of a ticket for exchange may be restricted due to technical requirements. These will be checked by Austrian. If a Flight Value Voucher is applied for for complex situations that mean it cannot be used online (e.g. partly flown tickets, already re-registered tickets, etc.), Users will be informed of any alternative options available (e.g. re-registering the original ticket for a new flight via the Service Centre). The offer for the conversion of a ticket into a Flight Value Voucher is a voluntary service provided by Austrian for which there is no entitlement.

Conversion into a Flight Value Voucher on the Flight Value Voucher portal is only possible if the booking number (record locator) or the ticket number of an unused ticket issued by Austrian is quoted.

The Flight Value Voucher is checked at the time of application and is provided online in the form of a redemption code.

The Flight Value Voucher is named and is issued in the name of the passenger of the underlying ticket. If several tickets are converted into one value voucher (e.g. within one family), the user shall select the name of the holder of the value voucher.

Customers who purchased their ticket before May 15th, 2020 and have chosen a Flight Value Voucher will also receive a Discount Voucher worth a maximum of EUR 50. This must be redeemed for a new ticket by January 31st, 2021 and the journey must be completed by December 31st, 2021. It is not possible to use Flight Value Vouchers and Discount Vouchers at the same time.

Discount Vouchers cannot be refunded. Any possible residual amount will expire after booking and cannot be taken in cash or used for a second booking. 

The credit for the Discount Voucher will be applied to the net fare with a maximum reduction to the value of EUR 0.

Flight Value Vouchers can only be redeemed online via austrian.com.

Flight Value Vouchers are valid from the time of issue up to and including December 31st, 2021. Other statutory or contractual claims arising from the original ticket remain unaffected.

The Flight Value Voucher holder must be the passenger of the flight ticket purchased.  

You must ensure when booking with the Flight Value Voucher that the departure location for the new booking is in the same country as the departure location on the original ticket.

If the voucher value exceeds the purchase price of the ticket, the remaining value of the voucher can be used for further purchases as part of the validity of the Flight Value Voucher. Other statutory or contractual claims from the original ticket remain unaffected for the remaining value of the voucher.

Only one (1) Flight Value Voucher can be used to purchase a flight ticket.

If the Flight Value Voucher is not sufficient for the purchase of a new flight in full, the difference can be credited to the Flight Value Voucher by credit card (Visa and Mastercard) during the redemption process.

The Austrian Flight Value Voucher can only be used for bookings on austrian.com with a route that includes at least one section with a flight with Austrian flight number (e.g. OS123).

The Flight Value Voucher is currently available for the following countries of departure: The USA, European Union, Switzerland and Great Britain.

It cannot be used on tickets already purchased.

By redeeming the Flight Value Voucher and purchasing a ticket, a contract of carriage is created between the Flight Value Voucher holder and Austrian. The Austrian Terms and Conditions of Carriage apply. These can be found on austrian.com.

If tickets paid for with a Flight Value Voucher are cancelled in accordance with the statutory or fare conditions and a refund is applied for, the refund value is re-transferred to the Flight Value Voucher. If the Flight Value Voucher is no longer valid at that time, a new Flight Value Voucher will be issued.

Once the Flight Value Voucher is used, its validity expires for the amount used. Any claims for a refund from the underlying original ticket are offset with the Flight Value Voucher used.

Refund claims for the Flight Value Voucher are based on the fare and statutory conditions of the underlying original ticket.

Austrian’s liability to users for compensation is excluded, providing the claim is based on minor negligence. This does not apply if, in breach of an obligation, which the contract must provide for in accordance with its meaning and purpose or fulfilment thereof allows proper execution of the contract and compliance thereof upon which users may generally rely. If Austrian is fundamentally liable, the claim for compensation shall be limited to the typical contractual and foreseeable damages (value of the established service).

The limitations of liability do not apply in the event of injury to life, limb or health, in the case of gross negligence or wilful intent by employees, vicarious agents or legal representatives of Austrian, as well as in the case of legally stipulated liability irrespective of fault or any guarantees undertaken.

Users are aware that unrestricted availability of the website austrian.flightvoucher.com is not technically feasible with the relevant services from Austrian. Austrian does not assume any guarantee in this respect. However, Austrian shall endeavour to make austrian.flightvoucher.com constantly available as far as possible, and at least 90 % of the time. In particular, maintenance, security or capacity works on the website and events that lie outside the scope of influence of Austrian (such as disruptions to public communication networks, electricity failures, etc.) may lead to short-term disruptions or the temporary suspension of services. Austrian shall only undertake maintenance, security or capacity works on the website as required and as far as possible at times of low demand. Austrian does not guarantee that third-party services, in particular network services or other services provided by third parties, will always be free from disruption, free from faults or reliably available.

Austrian is entitled to amend these terms and conditions of participation with immediate effect for the future. Users will be informed about this. Austrian shall only have this right if the amendment is reasonable for users in consideration of the interests of Austrian.

Austrian law shall apply to these terms and conditions of participation and all legal relationships between users and Austrian; the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and International Private Law are excluded. In the case of business dealings with consumers within the European Union, the law at the consumer’s place of residence can also be applicable, providing these concern mandatory provisions of consumer protection law.
