Air passenger rights

Due to the damage caused by the severe weather in Austria, ÖBB is making extensive adjustments to its timetable. These adjustments also affect customers who have booked AIRail connections to and from Linz, Salzburg and Graz. These adjustments make it necessary for AIRail customers to change trains at Vienna Central Station in future - unlike previously bookable. For this reason, the existing AIRail bookings will be modified to include a stopover at ‘Vienna Central Station (XWC)’ with a train change. Train shuttles will run every half hour between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Airport, taking customers to the airport and thus to their booked connecting flights.

The transfer process at Vienna Central Station (XWC) results in a longer journey time to Vienna Airport. In addition, the journey via the so-called old western railway line takes longer. Due to these two factors, AIRail customers will have to allow more time for their booked connection. In order to ensure that all customers with existing AIRail connections reach their booked flights on time, the train binding for existing AIRail bookings has been cancelled for the time being. Therefore, please check via the ÖBB SCOTTY app in good time before the start of your booked AIRail connection whether you will arrive at Vienna Airport on time with the booked train connection and whether you can take your onward flight in Vienna on time.

Austrian Airlines will adjust the AIRail connections to the ÖBB special timetable at the beginning of calendar week 42, which will be in force up to and including 14 December 2024. According to the latest statements from ÖBB, regular railway operations should then be possible again.

All affected passengers will be informed by e-mail to the e-mail address provided at the time of booking about the changed travel times and any necessary rebookings. Of course, new AIRail bookings will also be subject to longer journey times and the necessary change of train at Vienna Central Station / XWC. For new bookings, the longer journey times will be taken into account accordingly. Once the adjustment to the special timetable has been made, the train binding will be reinstated for both existing and new bookings.

If you would like to find out more, you can find detailed information on the effects of the storm damage on ÖBB's timetable and contact ÖBB's customer service here: Weather damage - ÖBB (oebb.at)
