General questions

Whether you enjoy the view from the window seat, prefer the flexibility of the aisle seat or want to sit with your family, you can book your preferred seat straight away with your ticket.

Advance seat reservation is possible on all flights operated by the Lufthansa Group, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines or Air Dolomiti. If a route is operated by a selected partner airline and is booked in combination with a Lufthansa Group flight, you can also select a seat in advance. Open your trip under My Bookings to see whether you can book a seat with the partner airline. Passengers travelling together are automatically seated next to each other.

You can reserve your preferred seat at the same time as booking your ticket up to a year before departure or at any other time up to 48 hours before departure under "My Bookings".

If all the passengers are in the same booking, you can set your preferred seats (window, aisle or middle) for each passenger individually when booking.

In accordance with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) regulations, we’d like to make you aware that you are entitled to free advance seat reservation on flights to and from Italy if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are travelling with a child between the ages of two and 12 years and/or
  • You are a passenger with a disability or accompanying a passenger with a disability.

The Lufthansa Group will give you the option of adjacent seats at check-in free of charge.

A group is when more than nine people are travelling on the same booking. In this case, the preferred seat can be reserved for each member.

Rebookings and cancellations

If your preferred seat is not available due to the cancellation of a flight or an involuntary rebooking to another flight, Austrian will of course refund the amount paid. Please complete the “​Seat reservation – refund” form.

If you cancel, the amount paid for the seat reservation will not be refunded.

In the event of rebooking on the same route, the seat reservation will remain in the same or (subject to availability) a lower seat category.

If you would like a seat in a higher category, you can have the amount for the existing seat reservation credited towards the new seat reservation.

If you rebook to a different route, the amount paid for the seat reservation will not be refunded and also cannot be credited towards a new seat reservation.

When purchasing an upgrade, the amount for the seat reservation will be refunded to you.
