Excess baggage

Do you like to travel in comfort and have everything you need with you? At Austrian Airlines, you don’t have to worry about how much you can take with you on your trip. We have the right solution for you, even with larger bags.

What you need to know about excess baggage

Your baggage counts as excess baggage if it exceeds

  • the dimensions of 158 to 292 cm (height + width + length) and
  • a weight of 24 to 32 kg.

In Business Class bags up to 32 kg are included, though they also count as excess baggage if they exceed 158 cm.

Excess baggage charges depend on the flight route and your baggage allowance. An additional ticket service fee may also be charged.

If you have additional bags over and above your baggage allowance that count as excess baggage, you can add them to your booking yourself online under “My Bookings”, by phoning our help desk or at the Austrian service counter at the airport.

Bags over 32 kg and a maximum size of 292 cm (length + width + height) are not accepted at check-in. There are special conditions of carriage applicable to bags that exceed the maximum dimensions of 158 cm (length + width + height). Please register them with our help desk by telephone or in writing using our contact form.

We ask that you register your bags by telephone in advance if you are taking more than five extra bags with you in addition to your baggage allowance.

Baggage calculator for scheduled flights*

The amount of your baggage allowance on scheduled flights* and the costs for additional bags depend on the route and the travel class or fare booked. Use our calculator to check how much baggage you can take on scheduled flights* and how to book additional bags.

*You can recognise a scheduled flight by its three-digit flight number, for example OS561 from Vienna to Zurich.
