Yes.

No, an upgrade can only be purchased after the ticket has been issued.

No.

The Austrian Airlines online check-in window opens 47 hours before departure. Passengers will receive an offer to upgrade subject to availability. In this case, the ticket is not updated, so the terms and conditions of the travel class originally booked continue to apply.

The fare terms and conditions of the ticket you originally booked (rebooking, refunds and baggage allowances) remain unchanged.

When you upgrade, you receive status and award miles based on the value of the upgrade.

Miles & More award tickets are excluded from Austrian Airlines fixed price upgrades.

Bid Upgrade

By placing a bid, passengers state how much they wish to pay for an upgrade. The amount of the individual bid is set online using a sliding scale. Afterwards, the bid can still be increased, reduced or cancelled.

All bids for the flight in question will be examined and selected 60 hours before departure. Passengers will be informed whether their bid has been accepted or not.

In order to take part in the bidding, the ticket must be issued for an Austrian flight and on an Austrian document no later than three days before departure.

In order to bid for Bid Upgrade you need a valid Austrian air ticket (ticket number beginning with 257) that has already been issued for a scheduled flight operated by Austrian. You can submit your bid in EUR, GBP or USD up to 60 hours before departure.

The following exceptions apply:

  • passengers travelling with children under the age of two;
  • passengers who booked their flight as part of a group of more than nine people;
  • unconfirmed flight bookings; and
  • passengers with pets (in the passenger cabin or in the baggage hold) or extra seats (for more comfort, for medical reasons or for carry-on baggage, such as musical instruments).

Austrian offers Bid Upgrade on all scheduled flights. For legal reasons, all flights to and from Japan are excluded.

Placing a bid is free of charge. Your card will be charged in the amount of your offer only if you receive the upgrade. Please note: your data will be required in advance when your offer is submitted in order to carry out the usual tests.

No.

All the flights in your reservation that are suitable for Bid Upgrade will be displayed. You decide which flights you would like to bid for.

No. All terms and conditions maintain their original validity.

You can also place your bid for Premium Economy Class with Bid Upgrade. In addition to the existing option of a direct upgrade from Economy Class to Business Class, you can also bid for an upgrade from Economy Class to Premium Economy Class, as well as from Premium Economy Class to Business Class.

The fare terms and conditions of the original ticket remain valid after your bid for an upgrade has been accepted. This also applies to baggage regulations.

You can book one additional bag at the Austrian Airlines web check-in from 47 hours before departure.

Bid Upgrade takes all passengers in the same booking into account.

As long as you are not registered together under a single booking number, you can place your own individual bid.

You can cancel or amend your bid or your resubmitted bid up to 60 hours before departure.

Rebooking and cancellation

As a general rule, when you rebook, the terms and conditions of an upgrade to Business Class remain the same as the terms and conditions of the originally booked Economy fare. For example, a “Light” fare, for which an upgrade to Business Class has been purchased, is neither rebookable nor refundable.

Once your bid has been accepted, the upgrade amount charged is not refundable.

Your upgrade remains valid at the same amount in the event of a rebooking to another Austrian flight. Otherwise, we will refund you your money.
